This very nice, family-run hotel is located in the lively little town of Chianciano Terme, well positioned, with easy connections to Italy’s major central cities. The HOTEL is within walking distance to all of the bars, restaurants and shops, which you can easily explore on foot. With its modern and spacious rooms complete with en-suite bathrooms and extremely comfortable beds, you’ll find it easy to unwind and relax during your free time! You can enjoy a refreshing drink on the sun-drenched terrace and dine in the restaurant, which features delicious traditional Tuscan delicacies and regional specialties. You’ll receive the traditional Tuscan welcome at this family-run hotel, where you’ll be made to feel at home. This hotel is bike friendly, managed and owned by Ettore and his family. Ettore is an experienced mountain biker who has a good knowledge of the English language.

Cinta Senese – ancient breed of pig
An opportunity to visit this particular breed of pig, once almost extinct, and learn how they are bred and well cared for. Then you’ll be able to appreciate the taste and quality of the meat. € 25 pp

TUSCANY MOUNTAIN BIKE HOLIDAY
Amiata, Val d’Orcia, Val di Chiana
This exhilarating mountain bike cycling holiday in Tuscany is an unique opportunity to cycle and have fun while peddling around this stunning area of Val di Chiana and the UNESCO national heritage park of the Val d’Orcia not forgetting the impressive extinct volcano Mount Amiata, where one of our routes uses the lower inclines. You’ll join an experienced cycle guide who knows this area very well and you’ll be able to cycle on quiet picturesque mountain bike trails occasionally using the white roads Strade Bianche characteristic of this area. The routes have been created to capture the most beautiful and outstanding scenery which includes rolling woodlands, vineyards, medieval hamlets and hilltop towns. Perfect mountain biking conditions for all levels of enthusiasts. On route, you’ll be able to stop for coffee and photo shoots at many truly remarkable places of interest. Our routes are carefully selected so that when necessary, you use tarmac roads with a very low level of traffic. Our routes/trails have been classed by our experienced guide as easy-moderate. After your ride you can spend time just relaxing in the sun watching the everyday Italian life go on around you giving you a close-up experience of this part of Tuscany.
Each day you’ll have a well-deserved coffee break, where you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a cappuccino in a local typical coffee bar. You can also treat yourself to freshly made typical cakes or filled rolls (panino). The routes are designed to take into consideration the terrain and ability of the group. All of the rides will be guided by an English speaking local guide who has excellent knowledge of the area.
Every morning you will meet at a local coffee bar to discuss your mountain bike route before setting off. You’ll be able to immerse yourself in the Tuscan culture and enjoy the spectacular terrain around you. At the end of each cycle ride, you’ll be free to relax and explore the town of Chianciano Terme with its spas, shops, museum, swimming pools or you can explore further afield. There is a very good bus service connecting the towns which is economical and reliable. There are many ways in which you can spend your free time. If you would like suggestions, feel free to ask your friendly hosts or guides. This is a good opportunity to really experience this part of Italy!
Transfer from the airport or station to check in at your bike-friendly hotel in Chianciano Terme where you will receive a warm welcome from Ettore and family.
After breakfast, we’ll meet at a local coffee car and go over the day’s route. Leaving Chianciano we’ll head towards Convento dei Cappuccini (historic church), then riding along an amazing forested ridge above the Val d’ Orcia, until we reach S. Biagio a beautiful Renaissance style church on the outskirts of Montepulciano. We’ll take a well deserved break in Montepulciano at a local coffee bar where you’ll be able to treat yourself to a panino or tortina. After our stop we’ll take a different trail for the return route back to your hotel. In the afternoon you’re free to explore the town or surrounding area or taking advantage of the local bus service to explore interesting nearby towns and villages. We can assist with information on tickets for excursions etc., or suggest particular things to do.
Once we’ve had our cappuccino briefing, we’ll head towards Pienza. Leaving Chianciano Terme we’ll take the trail for Castelluccio and on to the outstanding Val d’ Orcia, an Unesco natural park, riding along this valley until we make the short climb up to Pienza. There we’ll take a well-deserved break at a local bar where you can treat yourself to a snack. Departing from Pienza we take a route back via the beautiful setting of Monticchiello a small quaint hamlet (borgo). In the afternoon you’re free to explore the town or surrounding area or taking advantage of the local bus service to explore interesting nearby towns and villages. We can assist with information on tickets for excursions etc., or suggest particular things to do.
You have a free day today and a great opportunity to go further afield and maybe visit Rome, Florence, Perugia or Siena. There is an excellent train service available which takes you right to the centre of the cities. Of course we can help with ticket information etc.
Today’s splendid route will find us heading to Sarteano. We’ll leave Chianciano Terme and after climbing up to La Foce/Castelluccio, we’ll then descend into the Val d’Orcia where we’ll ride up and around the area of Contignano crossing through and over a ridge of hills to Sarteano. You’ll be able to rest in this picturesque small town overlooked by it’s commanding castle, a great place for taking photos and having a snack before riding on and up to Castiglioncello del Trinoro. After this we’ll make a long descent through the Riserva Naturale di Pietraporciana to Chianciano Terme. In the afternoon you are free to relax, but don’t forget that your town of Chianciano Terme has a public swimming pool complex, Etruscan museum and thermal spas and delicious ice-cream parlours. If you require suggestions of where to go, we’re able to assist.
We’ll meet over a coffee before heading out on todays exhilarating route to the lower parts of Mount Amiata, an extinct volcano. Leaving Chianciano Terme, we’ll drop down and through the Val d’Orcia skirting around Gallina before climbing up to Castiglione d’Orcia then heading on to Rocca d’Orcia before making todays coffee stop at Bagno Vignoni. Here will be a perfect place to rest, snack and admire this medieval spa hamlet with the ancient baths. After our break, we’ll cut across the Val d’Orcia climbing up on our last leg of the ride through Lucciolabella and up to Chianciano Terme. You can let us know if you need suggestions of where to visit or something in particular to do during the afternoon.
Enjoy another free day, or you may want to cycle, in which case we can supply recommended routes or request a guide for another morning. You may want to visit another city by train or even just relax. There will be a farewell dinner at a local typical restaurant during the evening.
